Email Builder: Adding Background Images

When you create a template or build an email, background images can be added to individual sections to stand out even more!

To get started with this...

  1. Click to the side of an email section to activate it.

  2. In the left sidebar, in the "Background and border" section, click Choose file.Optional: If your background image is too small, select Repeat the background image to repeat it both horizontally and vertically.

A background image can only be set for individual sections, not the entire email.

Full width background images

To make a background image full width:

  1. Click to the side of the email section with the background image.

  2. In the left sidebar, in the "Layout and spacing" section, click the "full width" layout button on the left.

Edit background images

Background images can be edited directly in the email builder after they've been uploaded. In the left sidebar in the "Background and border" section, click Edit next to the thumbnail of the image.

Background image editing uses the same editing tools as regular images.

Background image compatibility

Due to email client restrictions, background images are:

  • aligned to the top and left

  • displayed at their native size rather than scaled

While background images are supported in a number of email clients, they currently will not display in:

  • Outlook 2007–2016 on Windows

  • Outlook.com/Office 365

  • Windows 10 Mail

  • Android 5–6's native email app (not Gmail)

  • Gmail on Android when using IMAP accounts

To support these clients, we recommend picking a background color similar to your image as a fallback.
